Viadrina-Präsidentin Prof. Dr. Gesine Schwan wird am 4. Oktober
mit Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik geehrt
Mit dem Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland wird am 4. Oktober 2002 Prof. Dr. Gesine Schwan, Präsidentin der Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), geehrt. Bundespräsident Johannes Rau wird die Auszeichnung am Freitag, 4. Oktober, um 11 Uhr im Rahmen einer festlichen Veranstaltung im Schloss Bellevue in Berlin überreichen.
Die 59-jährige Berliner Politikwissenschaftlerin leitet seit 1999 die Viadrina, an der zurzeit rund 4 400 Studierende immatrikuliert sind, darunter rund 40 Prozent Ausländer. Internationale Kontakte unterhält die Universität zu über 140 Einrichtungen weltweit.
