On Friday 24th April, Fraunhofer IZFP welcomed eminent visitors from politics: During her two-day Saarland flying visit the Mexican Ambassador Patricia Espinosa Cantellano also visited the research institute and the joint Fraunhofer Innovation Cluster Automotive Quality Saar.
Accompanied by General Consul Dr. Horacio Saavedra Archundia the ambassador got a comprehensive overview on the research activities of Fraunhofer IZFP, deepened by a tour through the institute.
As one of the G12 states, Mexico belongs to the world's major industrial countries with strong economic strength. That is why there is great demand and consequently great interest in the development of its sciences and technologies. This situation is embedded in the context of the Mexican efforts to reduce the country’s economic dependence of the United States by strengthening the cooperation with Europe and especially with Germany.
One focus of the economic power of Mexico is the automotive industry: In consequence, the Saarland as automobile-oriented location is an ideal partner. Fraunhofer IZFP and its affiliated automotive cluster AQS Saar have highly relevant production-related competences for both the automotive and other industries. The Ambassador and Prof. Bernd Valeske, Head of the NdT of Components and Assemblies department at Fraunhofer IZFP, discussed in great detail opportunities for cooperation with technical institutions in Mexico. The dialogue will be continued, all the more as the University of Applied Sciences (htw saar), a prime partner of Fraunhofer innovation Cluster AQS Saar, already runs first collaborations in Mexico. To this end, today another cooperation agreement between htw saar with the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM) was completed at the Fraunhofer IZFP in the presence of the Ambassador.
