Prof. Dr. Gerd-Rüdiger Burmester hat zum 13. Juni das Amt des Präsidenten der European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) angetreten. Der Rheumatologe ist seit 1993 Direktor der Medizinischen Klinik mit Schwerpunkt Rheumatologie und Klinische Immunologie am Campus Charité Mitte. Zudem leitet er seit neun Jahren das CharitéCentrum für Innere Medizin und Dermatologie. Als europaweite Dachorganisation vertritt die EULAR die wissenschaftlichen Fachgesellschaften, Patientenorganisationen und professionellen Gesundheitsberufe der einzelnen Länder auf dem Gebiet der Rheumatologie. Ihr Ziel ist die Förderung von Forschung, Prävention, Behandlung und Rehabilitation bei rheumatischen Erkrankungen. Mit seiner Wahl zum Präsidenten ist Prof. Burmester der dritte Deutsche, der dieses Amt seit der Gründung der Organisation 1947 für zwei Jahre innehat.
