In the current ranking of European tech entrepreneurs published by the Financial Times and the networking platform Founders Forum two alumni of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management are among the top 50. Oliver Samwer (class of 1998) and Robert Gentz (class of 2007) made the list. Thus, two out of three German tech entrepreneurs featured in the ranking are WHU alumni.

Oliver Samwer (class of 1998) and Robert Gentz (class of 2007) made the list. Thus, two out of three German tech entrepreneurs featured in the ranking are WHU alumni.
The high-class judging panel ranked Oliver Samwer, founder and CEO of Rocket Internet, a Berlin based incubator, 21st. Robert Gentz, founder and member of the management board at Zalando, is ranked on 32nd place. The ratings are also a reflection of the strong entrepreneurial spirit at WHU. With the WHU Incubator, two chairs of entrepreneurship, Germany’s leading founders’ conference IdeaLab! which is entirely organized by students and numerous student clubs and initiatives promoting entrepreneurship WHU actively promotes startups and supports young founders.
To be eligible for the ranking, entrepreneurs must be European nationals or have made Europe their home in running a tech business. They must also be the chief executive or part of the founding team of a technology company. First, a team of experts from Founders Forum, leading tech industry executives and investors, Financial Times readers and interested Twitter and Facebook users compiled a longlist of just over 150 names. It was then whittled down to 50 by a judging panel made up of Caroline Daniel (editor of FT Weekend), Mathias Döpfner (chief executive, Axel Springer), Maelle Gavet (executive vice-president of global operations, Priceline), Brent Hoberman (co-founder and chairman, Founders Forum), Reid Hoffman (executive chairman and co-founder, LinkedIn), Xavier Niel (founder, Iliad). The judges were influenced by a number of factors, including the current impact of an entrepreneur, the innovation of their work and whether they have global standing.
