The Association of Supporters of the Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials presented the
Outstanding Biomaterials Thesis Award to Dr. Alexander Hoppe for his PhD thesis completed
in 2014 at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg with Professor Aldo Boccaccini.
Dr. Hoppe has described critical materials parameters dictating cell response and provides the scope for future developments of novel multifunctional bioactive glass derived biomaterials with therapeutic ion release capability highly relevant for tissue regeneration approaches.
Furthermore Dr. René Hensel was honored for his thesis Robust omniphobic surfaces by mimicking the springtail skin morphology with the Best Thesis of the Max Bergmann Center 2014.
Both prizes were presented to the awardees at the occasion of the Engineering Life 2015
Conference which was held in Dresden 29 September to 1 October 2015.
The Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials unifies researchers from the Institute of Materials Science at TU Dresden and the Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden working on biology-inspired materials.
