Mit Wirkung zum 4. September 2015 wurde PD Dr. Jörg J. Meerpohl zum Co-Direktor von Cochrane Deutschland ernannt. PD Dr. Meerpohl ist pädiatrischer Hämatologe und Onkologe. Seit 2007 arbeitete er am Deutschen Cochrane Zentrum (DCZ) am Universitätsklinikum Freiburg als Wissenschaftler und seit 2011 als stellvertretender Direktor. Seit 2014 ist er als Vertreter der Cochrane Zentren Mitglied der Cochrane Steering Group.
Seine wissenschaftlichen Schwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der Methodik systematischer Übersichtsarbeiten, Transparenz in der Forschung, Publikationspraxis und insbesondere Disseminations-Bias. Seit 2008 ist PD Dr. Jörg Meerpohl Mitglied der GRADE („Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation“) Arbeitsgruppe; er leitet das GRADE Zentrum in Freiburg, welches er 2013 gegründet hat und das nationale und internationale Organisationen bei der Leitlinienentwicklung mit GRADE unterstützt (unter anderem die World Health Organization WHO).
PD Dr. Jörg Meerpohl ist Autor und Co-Autor von über einhundert PubMed gelisteten Publikationen inklusive neun Cochrane Reviews. Er ist in verschiedenen Cochrane Gruppen aktiv, zum Bespiel in der Cochrane Methodengruppe GRADEing, dem Cochrane Child Health Field sowie dem Cochrane Trainer Network.
Als Beisitzer fungiert er im Vorstand des Deutschen Netzwerks für Evidenzbasierte Medizin (DNEbM), ist im Advisory Board der WHO für die „International Clinical Trials Registration Platform“ und Mitglied der WHO „Nutrition Guidance Expert Advisory Group“.
