Berlin, 27 October 2015 - The Friede Springer Foundation supports the Centre for International Security Policy at the Hertie School of Governance by establishing an Assistant Professorship. The Professorship for International Relations and Security is set to begin in September 2016 and will run for six years. Additionally, the foundation will be financing several full scholarships annually for students taking part in the Master of International Affairs programme. The new centre is led by Wolfgang Ischinger, chairman of the Munich Security Conference and Professor for Security Policy and Diplomatic Practice at the Hertie School.

“We find the broad and interlinking concept of security, which underlies the activities at the Hertie School very convincing. Topics like security and development, transatlantic relations and cyber security are highly relevant and urgently require partnership in the areas of research and teaching,” said chairperson of the board Friede Springer about the foundation’s decision. With its international quality and interdisciplinary focus, the Hertie School offers an exceptional environment for the above objectives.

Helmut K. Anheier, President of the Hertie School, added: “The partnership with the Friede Springer Foundation comes, on the one hand, at a very important time for the Hertie School by adding significant momentum to the establishment of the Centre for International Security Policy, under leadership of Wolfgang Ischinger, as well as to the Master of International Affairs programme. It also points to the pressing need for research in the area of security policy, which - thanks to the involvement of the Friede Springer Foundation - we can now focus on to an even greater extent.”
