Am 01. Dezember 2015 wurde in Cestas, in der Nähe von Bordeaux, die größte Solaranlage Europas eingeweiht. Die Anlage wird vom französischen Unternehmen Neoen betrieben.
Der Photovoltaik-Park umfasst 1 Million Sonnenkollektoren und erstreckt sich über eine Fläche von 260 ha (350 Fußballfelder). Seine installierte Leistung beträgt 300 MW. Damit kann die Anlage jährlich 350 GWh produzieren, was in etwa dem Verbrauch von 50.000 Haushalten entspricht. Der Anteil von Sonnenenergie an der Stromproduktion in Frankreich steigt mit der Anlage von 1,4 Prozent auf 1,7 Prozent.

Der Betreiber wird EDF (Electricité de France) seinen Strom für 105 Euro pro MWh über 20 Jahre anbieten. Dies liegt zwar noch deutlich über dem Preisniveau für Strom in Frankreich (knapp 40 Euro/MWh), ist aber ein deutliches Signal für die sinkenden Preise beim Solarstrom in den letzten Jahren (2010 lag der durchschnittliche Preis noch bei 300 Euro/MWh).
