Acknowledged experts: TIB introduces its Foundation Council

Dr. Barbara Hartung of Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture is Chair of TIB Foundation Council

HANNOVER, 29 January 2016 – The German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) became a public-law foundation of the Federal State of Lower Saxony on 1 January 2016. The TIB Foundation Council held its first meeting on 25 January 2016.

The first meeting of the Foundation Council was opened on behalf of the Ministry by the guest Andrea Hoops, State Secretary of Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. “The establishment of the Foundation gives TIB the autonomy and freedom it needs to develop further as a Leibniz institution. By integrating the University Library into the Foundation, numerous synergetic effects between international, national and regional literature and information provision can be exploited even more effectively and efficiently in the future.”

The Foundation Council plays an important role as the supreme governing body at TIB: it takes decisions on crucial issues such as the Foundations’ Statutes and Regulations; research and science policy; and financial issues that have a considerable impact. The Council also oversees the work of the Director. The Foundation Council has 13 members – seven are entitled to vote and six act in an advisory capacity. Dr. Barbara Hartung of Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture is the Chair of the TIB Foundation Council.
“The TIB Foundation Council is made up of acknowledged experts from policy, business and science. I am looking forward to working together with the other Foundation Council members,” stated Uwe Rosemann, Director of TIB.
