Kick-off: Joint Leadership Research with Mercuri Urval

Christine Sänger Presse
Kühne Logistics University - Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Logistik und Unternehmensführung

Prof. Niels Van Quaquebeke and PhD candidate Jennifer Ulrich have kicked off their joint research project on first-time leaders in cooperation with the supply chain function of Mercuri Urval.

The joint research project focuses on first-time transitions into leadership roles. Transitions like these are a watershed in employees’ careers. For the first time, they have become responsible for other employees, are confronted with tasks for which they had little or no professional preparation, and find themselves isolated at the top of a pyramid without peers who are readily available for exchange. The research project has been designed to examine the question of what happens to these leaders: specifically, what happens to their behavior to others and their own psychological health. The follow-up question asks what companies can do to assist in the transition to the benefit of everyone involved.
Mercuri Urval has donated €20,000 to Van Quaquebeke’s KLU Leadership Center to support the research project. While KLU focuses on the design and analysis of the study, Mercuri Urval will play the vital role of finding and contacting suitable companies for the study. The cooperating companies will receive the results first and have the opportunity to discuss them in a closed circle of practitioners before they are published in academic outlets.
Founded 47 years ago in Sweden, Mercuri Urval’s mission is to help companies find and develop the right people to deliver the best possible business results. It has grown organically to become one of the world’s leading consulting firms with more than 800 consultants worldwide. Mercuri Urval consultants work with more than 3,000 clients in over 50 countries. Commensurate with their growth, Mercuri Urval’s services have expanded to include a range of board and executive, talent management and business transformation solutions.
Companies that are interested in learning more about the KLU Leadership Center or the joint project with Mercuri Urval are invited to contact Prof. Niels Van Quaquebeke.
