Bis 2007 werden zwölf von 270 Institutsabteilungen geschlossen / Forschungsförderung soll Gemeinschaftsaufgabe bleiben
Die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft schließt bis zum Jahre 2007 zwölf von insgesamt rund 270 Institutsabteilungen, um ihr Haushaltsdefizit mittelfristig auszugleichen und Raum für neue Forschungsvorhaben zu schaffen. Die Strukturmaßnahmen sind Teil eines umfangreichen Konsolidierungs- und Erneuerungsprogramms, das der Senat der Forschungsorganisation auf seiner Sitzung am 5. Juni in Hamburg verabschiedet hat. Die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft sprach sich dafür aus, das System der gemeinschaftlichen Forschungsförderung durch Bund und Länder grundsätzlich beizubehalten und formulierte Vorschläge zur Weiterentwicklung.
