Krems (kpr). Seit Mai dieses Jahres ist das Zentrum für Bildung und Medien der Donau-Universität Krems Mitglied des Web3D-Konsortiums. Als internationales Forum der 3D-Industrie ist das Web3D-Konsortium die einzige Plattform zur Entwicklung von offenen Standards für Internet-basierte 3D-Technologien. Unterstützt von einer breiten Basis bedeutender Industriepartner fördert das Konsortium gemeinsame Initiativen, um einer Marktfragmentierung entgegenzuwirken.
"Die Verwendung räumlicher Visualisierungen ist vor allem im E-Learning-Bereich von steigender Bedeutung. Die Mitgliedschaft im Web3D-Konsortium ermöglicht uns die aktive Teilnahme bei der Entwicklung dieser Technologien", erklärt der Leiter des Zentrums für Bildung und Medien, Univ.-Doz. Dr. Michael Wagner.
Weitere Mitglieder des Web3D-Konsortiums sind unter anderem 3Dlabs, Adobe Systems, Alias/Wavefront, Autodesk, Boeing, Dassault Systemes, France Telecom, das Fraunhofer-Institut für Rechnerarchitektur und Softwaretechnik, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, NASA, National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) und Sun Microsystems.
