GMF President Karen Donfried delivers commencement speech
Berlin, 3 June 2016 – The Hertie School of Governance is celebrating the tenth graduating class of its Master of Public Policy. 146 Students from 36 nations receive their diplomas during a ceremony in Konzerthaus Berlin today (3 June). Three graduates will receive a doctorate. In her commencement speech, Karen Donfried, President of The German Marshall Fund of the United States and former special assistant to president Obama and senior director for European affairs on the National Security Council at the White House, will focus on challenges the liberal international order faces and why its preservation requires active contributions by the Class of 2016.
During the Master of Public Policy, a two-year, English-language programme, the students completed courses on, among other subjects, global and European governance, political economy, social policy and modern public administration. The majority of them spent a semester abroad at one of 20 partner universities or even completed a dual degree. The graduates also gained professional experience during their internships or professional years, for example in federal ministries, international organisations or large corporations. Their career plans reflect this diversity of experience and perspective.
The graduation ceremony will be live streamed from 3 p.m. (CET). Tune in for GMF President Karen Donfried’s commencement speech: http://bit.ly/hertie-live-stream #MPP2016
