Heidelberg, 13 June 2016 - EMBO is pleased to announce that Lithuania has joined its intergovernmental funding body, the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC). Lithuania is the 29th country to be accepted into the EMBC, where it has access to the support offered by EMBO to talented researchers in the life sciences at all stages of their careers.
“Life sciences in Lithuania have advanced at an impressive rate in recent decades, driven by robust investment in applied research and commercial biotechnology,” said EMBO Director Maria Leptin. “We look forward to helping Lithuania build on its achievements and take advantage of the opportunities and support available to our member states”.
As an EMBO member state, researchers working in Lithuania can apply to EMBO for Long-term Fellowships, Short-term Fellowships, Courses and Workshops funding and the EMBO Young Investigator Programme. Access to support in these areas helps some of Europe’s finest scientists to excel in their research and to engage in professional networking with an international community of peers.
“Life sciences are a particular strength of Lithuania and it is a pleasure to see our country become part of the EMBO family,” said Professor Virginijus Šikšnys of Vilnius University’s Institute of Biotechnology. “EMBO membership creates new opportunities for our young researchers and strengthens our links with the European life sciences community”.
