July 6/7, 2016, in Leipzig (Germany): Conference titled "European Cities in Dynamic Competition: Urban Governance, Cooperation, Competitiveness and Sustainability" organized by the Center for Advanced Studies in Management of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management.
Keynote speakers include Dr. h.c. Petra Roth (former Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main and long-time President of the German Association of Cities and Towns), Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research), Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Paqué (former State Minister and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg).
The development of urban centers was examined in an isolated manner for many years although cities have been subjected to increasingly fierce competition for workforce and companies in times of globalization. Currently, there is a lack of suitable models to better forecast and shape new developments for the cities of the future. This situation provides the starting point for this year's conference hosted by HHL's Center for Advanced Studies in Management (CASiM). The interdisciplinary research center of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management invites interested parties to attend the event, which will take place in Leipzig on July 6 and 7, 2016, to discuss changing cities, strategies for the competition of locations as well as issues of public participation and urban management with experts from science, urban management and the economy, and is kindly supported by the Stiftung Mercator foundation, Fraunhofer Institute IAO and the Handelsblatt business journal.
Keynote speakers will include Dr. h.c. Petra Roth (former Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main and long-time President of the German Association of Cities and Towns), who will talk about the Opportunities and Chances of Urban Management and Governance in the European City, and Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research), who will comment on Paris, Climate Protection, and the City of the Future. Scientific presentations will be given by Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Paqué (former State Minister and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg) on Theories of Dynamic Competition, Prof. Dr. Dodo zu Knyphausen-Aufseß (TU Berlin) on Strategic Management of Cities, Prof. Dr. Susanne Rau (University of Erfurt) on The History of the European City, and Prof. Dr. Dennis Hilgers (Johannes Kepler University Linz) on Urban Management Between Innovation and Legitimation.

The Center for Advanced Studies in Management (CASiM) is an interdisciplinary research center for business administration in the 21st century established at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in 2012. CASiM brings together the expertise of all departments of HHL to conduct research in the following four areas of business administration: "The role of trust in firms and with their stakeholders", "Change management in firms and markets", "Healthcare economics" and "Urban dynamics: cities and firms in global competition"
Besides its research activities, CASiM also offers a transdisciplinary and international platform for the development of business administration with regard to the great challenges implied by globalization, technological development, environmental and demographic dynamics. With this platform, facilitated by annual CASiM Conferences, the center provides a forum for the interdisciplinary dialog involving other academic disciplines and practitioners.
In 2013, the CASiM Graduate School started its operations with the enrollment of the first two outstanding young researchers who work on their doctoral projects under the guidance of internationally renowned researchers of the Executive Board of CASiM and from the HHL faculty. http://www.hhl.de/casim
