Horst Albach Named New Honorary Senator of HHL

    Conferral of the title of Honorary Senator to one of the doyens of German business administration

    HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management confers the title of Honorary Senator to one of the doyens of German business administration, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Horst Albach. By taking this step, the first business school in the German-speaking region honors Horst Albach's special accomplishments with regard to the development of business administration over the last 50 years into an academic discipline with his high-quality research with a strong practical relation as well.

    HHL Dean Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart also emphasized the honoree's outstanding commitment to HHL's Center for Advanced Studies in Management (CASiM), which was founded at the school by Horst Albach together with Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Heribert Meffert, Prof. Dr. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Ralf Reichwald and Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart four years ago, commenting, "His groundbreaking ideas and strong creative drive for the interdisciplinary research center, which examines questions of business administration in the 21st century, deserve special recognition and honors."

    Horst Albach, who turns 85 today, accepted the Chair of Business Administration at the University of Bonn when he was only 29 years old and served as editor of the German Zeitschrift für Betriebswirtschaftslehre (ZfB), which is called the Journal of Business Economics (JBE) today, where he chairs the Extended Board. His academic path led from the University of Bonn in the 1980s via WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, where Albach was one of the principal founders, to Freie Universität Berlin and eventually to Humboldt-Universität in Berlin.

    His exemplary scientific work with over 600 publications from almost all fields of business administration was honored with, among other things, ten national and international honorary doctorates as well as the acceptance into the Order Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts. In 2001, he was awarded the Knight Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
