Proportion of female professors at 23% in 2015

    WIESBADEN – At the end of 2015, roughly 46,300 professors were engaged in teaching and research at German institutions of higher education and university hospitals. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of approximately 600 or 1.2% on 2014. tel: +49 (0) 611 / 75 41 40,

    The total number of professors increased by 22% over the period of ten years. The proportion of female professors rose continuously in the same period. It increased from 14% in 2005 to 23% in 2015. The number of female professors nearly doubled over that period. Amounting to about 10,500, it reached a new peak in 2015.
