WIESBADEN – At the end of 2015, roughly 46,300 professors were engaged in teaching and research at German institutions of higher education and university hospitals. The total number of professors increased by 22% over the period of ten years. The proportion of female professors rose continuously in the same period. It increased from 14% in 2005 to 23% in 2015. The number of female professors nearly doubled over that period. Amounting to about 10,500, it reached a new peak in 2015.
