Dr. Sandra Niemeyer Kommunikation und Marketing
Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB)

Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić finds out first-hand about the library’s activities and projects

HANNOVER, 28 July 2016 – Lower Saxony Minister of Science and Culture, Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić, visited the Technische Informationsbibliothek – German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) in Hannover on Monday, 25 July 2016. The minister gained a first-hand impression of the general tasks and activities undertaken by the library, which acts not only as the German national library for technology, architecture, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics, but also as the University Library for Leibniz Universität Hannover.

    Research and development at TIB

The main focus of this afternoon’s visit was TIB’s research and development activities. In a bid to optimise the services it offers, the library conducts applied research and development on topics such as visual search, the visualisation of data, future internet and semantic web. TIB staff members gave short presentations to Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić, explaining to her the various projects and fields of work and research undertaken by the library.

“The diversity of the German National Library of Science and Technology is an impressive demonstration of how a library can position itself as a future-oriented institution. I was particularly impressed by the intense research activities conducted at the high-tech location of Hannover,” stated Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić during her visit to TIB.
