Das Nationale Olympische Komitee hat den Leiter des Instituts für Sport- und Präventivmedizin der Universität des Saarlandes, Prof. Dr. Wilfried Kindermann, erneut zum leitenden Mannschaftsarzt der deutschen Athleten für die Olympischen Sommerspiele in Athen 2004 berufen. Er übernimmt damit die medizinische Gesamtverantwortung für die deutsche Olympia-Mannschaft, die in Athen von circa 50 Ärzten und Physiotherapeuten betreut wird.
Kindermann hatte bereits bei den Olympischen Spielen 2000 in Sydney die Funktion des leitenden Mannschaftsarztes ausgeübt.
Außerdem hat ihn die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sportmedizin und Präventation für das Kuratorium der NADA (Nationale Anti Doping Agentur) benannt. Kindermann ist für die nächsten fünf Jahre Mitglied des Kuratoriums der NADA.
