15 Learning Units on non-proliferation and disarmament – Peace Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) took the lead in the implementation of major eLearning project of the EU Non-Proliferation Consortium, a joint venture of four leading European think tanks supporting the European Union in its non-proliferation and disarmament policies.

The eLearning course “EU Non-proliferation and Disarmament” covers all relevant aspects of the EU non-proliferation and disarmament agenda and aims to provide a comprehensive knowledge resource for practitioners and scholars interested in arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament, and EU policies in these fields. The course consists of 15 Learning Units covering both non-conventional and conventional weapons, and has an optional certificate section. 24 authors from 12 European countries and EU institutions contributed to the course, which is an open educational resource for all interested users world-wide.

The course was designed, developed and launched by the EU Non-Proliferation Consortium and funded through the EU Council Decision of 10 March 2014.

PRIF, as one of the four institutes in the Consortium, took the lead in the implementation of the project: Giorgio Franceschini as Project Director, Marco Fey and Dr Niklas Schoernig as Project Managers. Prof. Harald Mueller, former Executive Director of PRIF, directed the project in its early stages and authored the introductory Learning Unit on Arms Control Basics.

The EU Non-Proliferation Consortium is managed jointly by the Fondation pour la recherche stratégique in Paris (FRS), the Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt (HSFK/PRIF), the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), a member of the Leibniz Association, with its main office in Frankfurt am Main is the largest institute for peace research in Germany, comprising around 80 staff members.
