Die Bundesministerin für Bildung und Forschung Prof. Johanna Wanka ist seit Montag Ehrensenatorin der Hochschule Merseburg. Rektor Prof. Jörg Kirbs überreichte ihr bei der Festveranstaltung anlässlich des 25-jährigen Jubiläums der Hochschule am 3. April 2017 die entsprechende Urkunde in Anerkennung ihrer großen Verdienste für die Entwicklung der Hochschule Merseburg.
Prof. Wanka war von 1994 bis 2000 Rektorin der Hochschule. Die Ehrensenatorwürde ist die höchste Ehrung, die die Hochschule Merseburg vergibt.
