Talented Postdocs Wanted!

Dipl.-Volkswirt Thomas Jung Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Technische Universität Kaiserslautern

Application phase for Kaiserslautern Research Matching (karema) starts now and runs until 31st July.

Outstanding international junior researchers are to be invited to Kaiserslautern as part of the DFG-sponsored project ‘Kaiserslautern Research Matching (karema) – Meet First-Class Scientists for First-Class Funding’. The international guest scientists will team up with exceptional senior researchers from the University of Kaiserslautern (TUK) on a one-to-one basis in order to raise funding for joint research projects and thereby establish longer-term collaboration. In addition to the TUK, the Kaiserslautern Centre of Excellence for Simulation and Software-Based Innovation are likewise involved in karema.

The focus of karema lies on the fields of optics and materials sciences, mathematical modelling in the engineering sciences as well as membrane biology and systems biology. Highly esteemed professors do research in these fields at the University of Kaiserslautern and the surrounding research institutions.

While participating in the programme in Kaiserslautern (2nd - 10th December 2017), the visiting early career researchers from all over the world will experience close cooperation with their mentor, who is already involved in selecting candidates. During their stay, the karema guests will gain insights into the research of the respective working groups as well as into scientific culture in Germany as a whole. They will also expand their professional network and become familiar with work in international teams.

The aim is for the visiting researchers to subsequently apply for post-doctoral positions at the University of Kaiserslautern and develop research projects in collaboration with the renowned scientists at Kaiserslautern. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered for the nine-day placement.

Moreover, the karema team will also assist the early career researchers in all other aspects concerning their stay, including travel formalities and visa applications, thanks to the experts at the International School for Graduate Studies (ISGS) of the University of Kaiserslautern. The application deadline is 31st July 2017. Applications can be submitted online at http://www.uni-kl.de/karema.

    About the concept:
How can the best minds from around the world be attracted to a German university? In response to this question, the University of Kaiserslautern has conceived the programme ‘Kaiserslautern Research Matching (karema) – Meet First-Class Scientists for First-Class Funding’. It is intended to raise further visibility among highly qualified researchers from around the world for Kaiserslautern as a prestigious research site.

The University of Kaiserslautern secured funding for karema in the ‘International Research Marketing’ competition organized by the German Research Foundation (DFG). karema was awarded the special ‘Start-up’ prize, which is financed by the DFG in connection with the ‘Research in Germany’ initiative, using funds provided by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.
