Dissertation award from the Reinhold-und-Maria-Teufel-Foundation goes to Danelle Seymour

    Tübingen, 19th of July 2017. Dr. Danelle Seymour received the dissertation award of the Reinhold-und-Maria-Teufel-Foundation for her excellent thesis on fundamental questions of evolutionary biology. Her research focused on the question "How do changes in the genome affect phenotypic diversity, fitness, and gene expression levels between close relatives?". The award ceremony took place within the scope of the plenary assembly of the Department of Biology of the University of Tübingen.

    Danelle Seymour defended her PhD thesis on questions of genetics and epigenetics of plants. She completed her PhD thesis at the Department of Molecular Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, Tübingen.

    Dr. Seymour studied positive and negative interactions in the genome, as well as the evolution of epigenetic markers in the genome on the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and two related species. Dr. Seymour is currently a postdoc at the University of California, Irvine.

    The dissertation award of the Reinhold-und-Maria-Teufel-Foundation recognizes outstanding quality of dissertations within the field of Biology and Law. The award of the Foundation, located in Tuttlingen, includes a personal purse of €5,000 per laureate. This year the award within the field of Biology went to nine scientists, who completed their PhD thesis last year.
