Forschungsvereinigung Verbrennungskraftmaschinen e.V.

Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer (Schaeffler AG) was elected as the new President of the FVV (Forschungsvereinigung Verbrennungskraftmaschinen | Research Association for Combustion Engines) at the autumn meeting of the FVV Board held in Frankfurt/M. on 17 November 2017. At the same time, Kai Knickmann (MANN+HUMMEL GmbH) was elected as Deputy President.

Frankfurt/M., 22 November 2017 // The FVV Board has elected Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer as its new President. Professor Gutzmer is Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Schaeffler AG. He succeeds to Dr.-Ing. Georg Pachta-Reyhofen (former CEO of MAN SE and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE), who has been a Member of the FVV Board since 2001 and has been its President since 2010.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gutzmer (b. 1953) studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart, where he received his doctoral degree on the subject of internal combustion engines. After six years of research at the FKFS (Forschungsinstitut für Kraftfahrwesen und Fahrzeugmotoren Stuttgart | Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart), he began his professional career at Porsche in 1984. In his last position, he was in charge of project management and vehicle development and acted as Deputy CEO for Research and Development. In 2001, Professor Gutzmer joined the Schaeffler Group as Member of the Management Board for Technical Product Development. From 2009 to 2011 he assumed further responsibilities as Head of the Engine Systems Business Unit in the Powertrain Division of Continental. He restructured this unit and initiated various joint strategic projects between Schaeffler and Continental. When the company’s legal entity changed to Schaeffler AG in 2011, he became Chief Technology Officer and, in December 2013, he was appointed as a Member of the Supervisory Board of the Continental AG. In June 2014, Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer was appointed Deputy CEO of Schaeffler AG.

Professor Gutzmer has been a Member of the FVV Board since 2009, representing the FVV member company Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG.

Dipl.-Ing. (TU) Kai Knickmann (b. 1964) has a degree in mechanical engineering from Braunschweig University of Technology, specialising in combustion engines and automotive technology. He started his professional career at Hengst-Filterwerke in Münster in 1990. In his last position, he was in charge of application engineering and original equipment sales. In 1999, Kai Knickmann joined MANN+HUMMEL GmbH, initially in the US, later in Germany and Great Britain. As from May 2010, he headed the Automotive OEM Division as a Member of the Extended Management Board. In March 2016, he was appointed to the Board of Management. Since 2017, he has been serving as President & General Manager Original Equipment. In this function he is in charge of the Original Equipment Business with automotive and industrial customers.

Kai Knickmann has been a Member of the FVV Board since January 2014. He succeeds in his new position as Deputy President to Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Dohle (former CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG and CTO of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH).

"With their excellent technical and international management experience and with great dedication, Dr. Georg Pachta-Reyhofen and Dr. Ulrich Dohle have shaped the FVV’s work since 2010 and substantially strengthened the Association" stated FVV Managing Director Dietmar Goericke. "I would like to thank both gentlemen for the many years of good cooperation, in which we have successfully internationalised both the membership and the research & innovation network of the FVV. I am pleased that the right course had been set for the long term and, with Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer and Kai Knickmann, we were able to appoint two very successful and experienced executives. We are currently facing a situation of radical changes in the areas of mobility, transportation and energy supply, and I am convinced that together with all new Board members we can successfully align our pre-competitive, application-oriented industrial collective research (IGF) work on internal combustion engines and turbomachinery with the challenges of the future."

Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer and Kai Knickmann took up their duties on 17 November 2017 with immediate effect.
