Professor Dr. Hans Schotten ist zum neuen Vorsitzenden der Informationstechnischen Gesellschaft (ITG) und zum Mitglied des Präsidiums des Verbands der Elektrotechnik (VDE) gewählt worden. Die Amtszeit beträgt drei Jahre. Professor Schotten hat den Lehrstuhl für Funkkommunikation und Navigation an der Technischen Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK) inne. Zugleich ist er Wissenschaftlicher Direktor am Deutschen Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern.
In seiner Forschung beschäftigt sich Professor Schotten unter anderem mit Mobilfunktechniken und Funkkommunikation. Darüber hinaus entwickelt er neue Sicherheitstechniken und Kommunikationsinfrastrukturen für die Industrie.
Die ITG wurde 1954 als Nachrichtentechnische Gesellschaft gegründet und hat rund 10.000 Mitglieder. Sie ist der technisch wissenschaftliche Verband der in der Informationstechnik tätigen Wissenschaftler und Ingenieure aus Wirtschaft, Forschung und Verwaltung. Die ITG ist eine Fachgesellschaft des VDE und Mitgestalter der digitalen Zukunft.
