The Digital Society Institute (DSI) at ESMT Berlin welcomes its new affiliate Clemens Binninger, former member of the German Bundestag. The ESMT Executive Management Committee has confirmed his appointment as an affiliate.
As an affiliate, Binninger is an honorary member of the DSI and will support its research in the area of cyber security, particularly with regard to cybersecurity policy and the fight against cyber crime. He will take part in workshops and conferences of the institute and contribute to publications and research projects.
From 2002 to 2017, Clemens Binninger was a directly elected member of the German Bundestag. He served as a member of the Committee on Internal Affairs, and rapporteur, in areas such as counterterrorism, aviation and cyber security, and the reform of parliamentary supervision of the intelligence services. From 2009, Clemens Binninger was a member of the Parliamentary Control Panel and served as its chairperson in 2014 and 2016-2017.
ESMT Berlin established the DSI in 2016 to promote the future conception of digitalization through targeted interdisciplinary research and the development of digital technologies for innovative approaches to the security of digitalization. It is supported by leading international companies in Germany.
