Professor Dr. Ursula M. Staudinger wechselt zum 1. Oktober 2003 von der TU Dresden an die International University Bremen (IUB). An der IUB übernimmt sie als Vice President and Academic Dean die Leitung und den Aufbau des Jacobs Center for Lifelong Learning and Institutional Development. Seit 1999 hatte Professor Staudinger eine Professur für Entwicklungspsychologie der Lebensspanne an der TU Dresden inne. Zuvor war sie als Projektleiterin am Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung sowie an der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin tätig. Professor Staudinger ist Mitglied der Leopoldina und Fellow der American Psychological Association. Die Bundesregierung bat sie als Expertin an der Entwicklung des Zweiten Weltenaltenplans der U.N. mitzuarbeiten.
Im November 2001 unterzeichneten Klaus J. Jacobs, Vorsitzender des Stiftungsrates der Jacobs Foundation, und IUB-Präsident Dr. Fitz Schaumann den Schenkungsvertrag für das Jacobs Center for Lifelong Learning and Institutional Development an der IUB. Das Center befasst sich in Forschung, Lehre und Consulting mit der lebenslangen Entwicklung und Bildung des Menschen, dem institutionellen Wandel in einer demographisch veränderten Welt und einer gelungenen Lebensgestaltung, die Arbeit, Familie und persönliche Entwicklung synergetisch verbindet.
