    - Digital Society Institute expands focus to include high assurance technologies

The Digital Society Institute (DSI) at ESMT Berlin and the Center for Cyber Conflict Studies (C3S) of the US Naval War College (NWC) will work together in the area of cybersecurity. Over the next five years, the two organizations will collaborate on joint events and publications. With this cooperation, DSI is expanding its core competencies of data protection and cybersecurity to include high assurance technologies.

The two institutes will bring together American and European IT experts who focus on national security issues. The C3S trains leaders of the US Navy, concentrating on the strategic and operational challenges of cyber space. One goal of DSI is to promote the conception of digitalization through targeted interdisciplinary research and development.

The partners’ first joint event “Systematic Cyber Defense” took place on May 1-2 in Newport, Rhode Island. At the successful event, international experts discussed current challenges and exchanged possible solutions in the area of cybersecurity.

“The cooperation with the Center for Cyber Conflict Studies is an important component in the expansion of our portfolio,” said Sandro Gaycken, Director of the Digital Society Institute at ESMT. “Together we can identify our own critical security gaps, as well as the ones of our partners, and look for transatlantic solutions to cyber risks.”
