Outstanding Equality of Opportunity
TU Berlin has successfully pursued a policy of equality of opportunity for many years, and in recognition of its commitment to this issue, it has now, for the fourth time, been awarded the Total E-Quality accolade - this time for 2018 to 2020. TU Berlin has held the Total E-Quality award since 2008 and has now in 2018 received the newly introduced Diversity award for the first time. The certificate will be presented in a ceremony to be held in October 2018.
The award is conferred by the TOTAL E-QUALITY association, which was established in 1996 by companies, ministries and organizations with the goal of creating equality of opportunity for women and men in their professional lives.
The jury explained their reasons for conferring the award to TU Berlin as follows:
"TU Berlin shows a clear commitment to diversity and pluralism as enshrined in the university's Future Strategy, its plans for the advancement of women, its agreements on objectives and its Mission Statement. This is reaffirmed by numerous awards and programs for advancement of equality of opportunity: audit familiengerechte Hochschule (family-friendly university audit) (most recently 2018), Berliner Chancengleichheitsprogramm (Berlin’s equal opportunities program) (2001-2020) as well as its signing of the German Diversity Charter 2013 are all proof of the university's outstanding commitment.
TU Berlin convinces in all its areas of action through its range of programs which have been consistently developed and which clearly reflect the strategic objectives which inform them. TU Berlin explores avenues of innovation with measures directed towards specific target groups, and in doing so raises its profile above that of other universities.
The establishing of a centralized gender equality controlling, which is consulted for the development of all strategic documents and strategic papers, strengthens the university in its pursuit of equality of opportunity in all areas.

Of particular note is the university's stated goal to develop gender and diversity competences, particularly among staff with managerial responsibility and to provide them with thorough training in these areas. Gender and diversity competences are also being included in job descriptions for managerial positions. Academic support programs such as "Gender Pro Mint", a career program for non-German female postdocs and the "Joint Programs for Female Scientists and Professionals" all provide proof of TU Berlin's successful implementation of gender and diversity in its academic activities.
