EGU 2019 meeting: Media registration now open

Dr. Bárbara Ferreira EGU Executive Office
European Geosciences Union

The 2019 General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) provides an opportunity for journalists to find out about the latest research in the Earth, planetary and space sciences, and to talk to researchers from all over the world. The meeting, the largest geosciences conference in Europe, is anticipated to bring together over 14,000 scientists in 2019. It runs from 7 to 12 April and is taking place at the Austria Center Vienna, in Vienna, Austria.

The EGU General Assembly (https://www.egu2019.eu/) allows journalists to learn about new developments in a range of fields, such as planetary exploration, Earth observation, polar science, climate change, pollution and natural hazards. The preliminary programme (https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2019/sessionprogramme/) for the meeting includes hundreds of scientific sessions covering all areas of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. Some of the meeting’s most newsworthy scientific advances will be presented to journalists at press conferences, to be announced in March.

Members of the media, public information officers and science bloggers (conditions apply) are now invited to register for the meeting online, free of charge at https://www.egu.eu/gamedia/2019/registration/eligibility/. Media registration gives access to the Press Centre, interview rooms, and other meeting rooms. It also includes a public transportation ticket for central Vienna, valid from Monday to Friday. At the Press Centre, media participants have access to a working space with a dedicated wireless network and a press conference room. In addition, breakfast, lunch, coffee and refreshments are available free of charge.

Online registration is open until 14 March 2018. We strongly encourage all media participants to register in advance via this site to facilitate badge collection on arrival to the conference centre, the Austria Center Vienna (https://www.acv.at/). You may also register on-site during the meeting.

Further information about media services at the General Assembly is available at https://www.egu.eu/gamedia/2019/. Closer to the time of the meeting, this website will feature a full programme of press conferences, which will also be announced in later media advisories. For information on accommodation and travel, please refer to the appropriate sections of the main EGU General Assembly 2019 website (https://www.egu2019.eu/).
