Based on its international experience, the peace and conflict research institute BICC provides research and advisory services in highly relevant thematic fields such as forced displacement, violent armed conflicts or the control of arms exports. In the 2018 Global Think Tank Index, BICC together with only a dozen other institutions from Germany is again ranked in the category of leading think tanks worldwide.
In the 2018 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), University of Pennsylvania, BICC is found in the categories “Top Think Tanks Worldwide (US and non-US)” as well as “Top Think Tanks Worldwide (non-US)” amongst the Top 100 (ranks 68 and 81). BICC is the only peace and conflict research centre from Germany that is listed in this ranking.
"In times of ‘fake news’ the credibility of think tanks is of immense significance. This is why BICC’s policy advice and political analyses are based on sound and accurate research. The fact that BICC again has been listed in the Global Think Tank Ranking makes us proud and is highly encouraging for our work”, Professor Conrad Schetter, Director for Research at BICC, welcomes the ranking. "The debate on sustainability was high on our agenda last year. The fact that besides BICC, the German Development Institute (GDI) and the Center for Development Research (ZEF) are also listed multiple times in the ranking provides a strong impulse to the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research”, Schetter emphasizes.
The TTCSP maintains the largest, most comprehensive database of over 8,100 think tanks. In 2018, a panel of over 1,790 peer institutions and experts from academia, public and private donor institutions, governments, and the print and electronic media around the world participated in the ranking.
BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) is a non-university think tank with international staff. It was founded in 1994 and is a member of the Johannes-Rau-Research Community. The Center’s Director for Research holds a chair for Peace and Conflict Studies at Bonn University.
