Prestigious European award for Adam Antebi

Dr. Maren Berghoff Communications
Max-Planck-Institut für Biologie des Alterns

For a period of five years, Adam Antebi, a Director at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, will receive the Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC). In a highly selective process, this award is given only to world leading researchers carrying out groundbreaking work and is therefore considered a great scientific distinction.

The European Research Council promotes basic research by awarding grants to outstanding scientists. With the ERC Advanced Grant, Adam Antebi's highly innovative research is funded with 2.5 million euros for a period of five years.

In his project "NuAge", Antebi seeks to investigate how a tiny organelle inside the nucleus of the cell, called the nucleolus, influences the ageing process.
"We’re very excited about this grant because we are examining how the nucleolus impacts longevity and immunity in different model organisms, including the small roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans and the turquoise killifish Nothobranchius furzeri” explains Antebi.
In addition, the scientists want to investigate whether nucleolar markers are associated with human health and whether different longevity pathways converge on the nucleolus to affect health and life span.

This will be the sixth time a director at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing has received this distinguished European award, which can further advance the mission of the institute to understand the ageing process and improve health into old age.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
