Fraunhofer HHI releases new version of open-source radio channel model QuaDRiGa for use in future 5G evaluations

By the end of June, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute released QuaDRiGa 2.2, a comprehensive update of the well-established open-source radio channel model. QuaDRiGa, short for "QUAsi Deterministic RadIo channel GenerAtor", is mainly used to generate realistic radio channel impulse responses for use in system-level simulations of mobile networks. These simulations are used to determine the performance of new technologies in order to provide an objective indicator for the standardization process in bodies like the third generation partnership program 3GPP.

QuaDRiGa was developed at Fraunhofer HHI to enable the modeling of MIMO radio channels for specific network configurations such as indoor, satellite or heterogeneous configurations. Besides being a fully-fledged three-dimensional geometry-based stochastic channel model, QuaDRiGa contains a collection of features developed in SCM(e) and WINNER channel models. Furthermore, it contains new modelling approaches that offer functions to enable quasi-deterministic multi-link tracking of receiver movements in changing environments. Furthermore, the channel model is calibrated with the 3GPP channel models 3GPP-3D and the latest New Radio channel model 3GPP-NR.

The new version QuaDRiGa 2.2 contains new features for the simulation of dual-mobility scenarios, thus supporting moving transmitters and receivers at the same time. In addition, the new version covers industrial environments and can therefore be used for Industry 4.0 applications such as Industrial Internet of Things (IoT). The open-source MATLAB/Octave implementation is available free of charge at

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
