TU Berlin: Second Round of the “Digital Future“ Lecture Series

Stefanie Terp Stabsstelle Kommunikation, Events und Alumni
Technische Universität Berlin

In winter semester 2019/2020, TU Berlin’s “Digital Future” lecture series will be focusing on current themes in data science and data engineering.

3D printing in production, new apps for smartphones, the automation of administrative processes. Digital transformation now affects so many areas of society and its progress seems uncheckable. But what exactly lies behind the terms “data science” and “data engineering”?

Following on from last semester’s “Digital Future” lecture series, which dealt with digital transformation in a general sense, this semester’s program focuses specifically on the data-driven digital transformation of society. The changes this gives rise to enable a whole new range of applications. Whereas developments in biotechnology, for example, used to be dependent upon a thorough prior understanding of physical-chemical relationships, scientists are now attempting to obtain big data regarding the behavior of individual biological components and use these to derive relationships and options for optimization.
The lecture series focuses on the methods involved and their application in a wide range of areas. Every week, chosen experts from TU Berlin and other institutions will be exploring different aspects of data science and “applied” data science, also referred to as data engineering. What challenges and risks are created by ever-growing masses of data? What dangers are inherent in the fallibility of acquired mathematical models such as machine learning and artificial intelligence? Should we still have blind faith in today’s technology?

You are cordially invited to attend this public lecture series:
    When: 22 October 2019 until 11 February 2020, Tuesdays 16:00 until 18:00
Where: TU Berlin, University Library, Fasanenstraße 88, 10623 Berlin, room BIB 014
The lectures will be held in English.

This interdisciplinary series of lectures is aimed at students of all disciplines as well as the general public. There are a total of 15 lectures providing an overview of methods and applications in the area of data-driven digital transformation.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
