On 30 October, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden e.V. (IFW) appointed a joint professor. As research group leader at IFW, Dr. Julia Kristin Hufenbach will also lecture at the TU Freiberg.
Born in Lower Saxony, she has a long-standing relationship with the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg. Here she began her studies in materials science and materials technology in October 2004, which she successfully completed after a good five years in January 2010 with an excellent diploma. For her outstanding scientific achievements during her studies, she also received the Georgius Agricola Medal of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg in her final year.
Freiberger Alumna moved to Dresden after her studies. There she started in January 2010 as a research assistant at the Institute for Complex Materials of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW) Dresden and is now deputy head of department.
The research focus of the young scientist, who received her doctorate with distinction at the TU Dresden, includes the development of tailor-made high-performance steels for toolmaking as well as new biodegradable implant materials.
With immediate effect, Dr. Hufenbach brings this knowledge to teaching and research at the Chair of Materials Functionalization of the Faculty of Materials Science and Materials Technology at TU Freiberg.
