Call of sequencing projects

Johannes Seiler Dezernat 8 - Hochschulkommunikation
Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn

Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) funded initiative to develop, advance, and provide genomic technologies at universities throughout Germany.

In view of the ever expanding next generation sequencing (NGS) landscape, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) funded an initiative to create the Next Generation Sequencing Competence Network (NGS-CN) in Germany. This network is comprised of four NGS Competence Centers (NGS-CCs), including the West German Genome Center (WGGC), a collaboration led by the University of Cologne that also involves the Universities of Bonn and Düsseldorf; the NGS Competence Center Tübingen (NCCT) at the University of Tübingen; the DRESDEN-concept Genome Center (DcGC) at the Technical University Dresden; and the Competence Center for Genomic Analysis Kiel (CCGA) at the University of Kiel.

This networking-focused approach of the NGS-CN represents a unique opportunity in terms of developing, advancing, and providing this essential technology to many scientists in need of NGS for their research projects, both in the life and the medical sciences. This type of network structure will promote training, harmonization and standardization in the field of genomics. Further, it will contribute to setting high data standards and also the anchoring of genomics technology in medicine in Germany.

The NGS-CN has a main administrative body called the Central Coordination Unit (CCU) represented by Prof. Joachim Schultze (speaker), and Dr. Mariam L. Sharaf Hastings (officer). The CCU is involved in harmonizing and facilitating consulting and networking throughout the NGS-CN in the areas of bioinformatics, genomics, and high-performance computing. The CCU office is located at the University of Bonn at the Life & Medical Sciences Institute (LIMES).

The NGS-CCs are responsible for sequencing a variety of projects funded by the DFG. The first round of projects is in the sequencing phase at each NGS-CC with a budget of 14 million Euros. The second call of projects is being evaluated by the DFG and is expected to be awarded in the first quarter of 2020. A third call for sequencing projects is currently open for new applications, in this call scientific projects with a medium-sized demand (€100,000 to €1 million) of sequencing costs are going to be considered. For the third call the letter of intent is due 14th of January.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
