Bayreuth (UBT). Zwischen dem Lehrstuhl Tierökologie I der Universität Bayreuth und dem Zoology/Entomology Department, Faculty of Science, der Assiut University in Assiut/Ägypten ist ein Kooperationsvertrag unterzeichnet worden, der auf die Anregung des im vergangenen Jahr in Bayreuth arbeitenden Stipendiaten der Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung, Dr. Amer Tawfik, zurückgeht. In dieser Kooperation sollen biotechnologische Untersuchungen an Schadinsekten (Wüstenheuschrecke Schistocerca gregaria und Heerwurm Spodoptera littoralis) unternommen werden. Das Ziel ist die Entwicklung neuartiger, ökologisch verträglicher Insektizide. Auf Bayreuther Seite wurde der Vertrag vom bisherigen Dekan der Fakultät für Biologie, Chemie und Geowissenschaften, Professor Paul Rösch unterzeichnet, auf ägyptischer Seite durch den Dean der Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. E.A. Ahmed.
