    - Programme / Topics now Public at www.science-days.org and www.sciathon.org
    - Accreditation at www.lindau-nobel.org/press
    - Manifold Ways to Access Online Activities / Contact Participants
    - Hashtags for Social Media #LINOSD and #Sciathon

After the postponement of the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences to 2021, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings now present the programme of this year’s alternative activities: the Online Science Days 2020 (28 June – 1 July) and the Online Sciathon 2020 (19 – 21 June).

Both events comprise topics from natural as well as economic sciences. The Online Science Days 2020 will take place through an online events platform: 36 Nobel Laureates will exchange their thoughts, perspectives and questions in various programme formats with Lindau Alumni participating in former Meetings as well as 1.034 young scientists and young economists from 107 countries – those also invited to next year’s meetings.

On the weekend before the Online Science Days, Lindau Alumni, young scientists and economists will participate in the Online Sciathon 2020 (19 – 21 June), a 48 hours hackathon-style event for topics from the Lindau cosmos:

    - Lindau Guidelines for Global, Sustainable and Cooperative Open Science
    - Communicating Climate Change
    - Capitalism after Corona

To participate as a journalist, blogger or science influencer in both the Online Science Days and the Sciathon we ask for your accreditation at lindau-nobel.org/press (if you haven’t already done so – having attended a Lindau Meeting over the past five years, just send us a short email in order to register).

With the official Lindau Online Accreditation 2020 you may access our activities as follows:

    Online Science Days 2020

    - Streaming of complete programme 28 June – 1 July (otherwise only participants and guests by invitation)

    - Interviews with members of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings
    - Prompt delivery of video recordings from the programme
    - Providing photo/video footage from the programme (screenshots, short sequences), possibly also backstage/making-of impressions

Online Activities 2020 of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings

From 28 June – 1 July the Online Science Days 2020 will gather high-calibre researchers, consisting of Nobel Laureates and young scientists in different career levels. Instead of meeting at Lake Constance due to the Corona pandemic (meetings postponed to 2021) the exchange between generations, disciplines and cultures will take place via internet all around the globe.

The online programme starts on Sunday, 28 June at 16 hrs CEST with an opening ceremony followed by a debate about scientific collaboration with the Nobel Laureates Barry Barish, David Gross, Konstantin Novoselov, and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan. The programme provides debates, talks, conversations and sessions with Nobel Laureates in the disciplines physics, chemistry, physiology and medicine, Laureates of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel as well as Lindau Alumni from former Meetings and the young scientists and economists invited for the Meetings in 2021.
One week before the Online Science Days during our hackathon-style Online Sciathon 2020 (19 – 21 June) young scientists will work together on current topics. The results and topics of the Sciathon will also be discussed during the Online Science Days 2020.

About the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings

Since their foundation in 1951 the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have developed into a unique international scientific forum. The annual Meetings provide an opportunity for an exchange between different generations, cultures and disciplines. The theme of the Lindau Meetings alternates between Physics, Chemistry or Physiology and Medicine – the three Nobel Prize scientific disciplines. Every five years an interdisciplinary Meeting takes place, while the Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences is held every three years. Through the medium of various declarations (2015 on Climate Change, 1955 Against the Use of Nuclear Weapons) the scientists have repeatedly joined in the public debate with political appeals.

It was the Lindau physicians Franz Karl Hein and Gustav Wilhelm Parade who approached Count Lennart Bernadotte af Wisborg with the idea of a conference of Nobel Laureates and proceeded to jointly implement this with him – since 1953 with the participation of young scientists. Some 35,000 students, PhD candidates and post-docs have since taken part. Their experience of the Meeting may be literally once-in-a-lifetime, but they remain permanent members of the Lindau Alumni Network and ambassadors for scientific dialogue.

All year long the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings continue to pursue their “Mission Education” aimed at emphasising the importance of science and advocating science and research. This is also the purpose for which the online mediatheque is being developed into a learning platform which includes teaching materials for schools.
