Klaus Boehnke, Professor of Social Science Methodology at Jacobs University, has been honored as an "Outstanding Psychologist outside the U.S." for his services in the field of comparative cultural studies and political psychology. The former Vice Dean of the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) was presented with the award by the International Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association (APA), the world’s largest organization of psychologists in the United States.
In Bremen and beyond, Boehnke has recently attracted attention for his intercultural research on social cohesion and on diversity and inequality. His studies on xenophobia and right-wing extremism in Germany have been widely discussed, not only by experts. Numerous publications in high-ranking international journals such as Science, the American Journal of Sociology or the Journal of Personality attest to the importance of his research.
In addition, the father of four children, who has been teaching at Jacobs University in Bremen since 2002, has assumed a number of leading positions in international scientific organizations. For example, he was Secretary General of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP) and President of the Division of Political Psychology of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). Currently, the scientist is president of IACCP.
In addition to Jacobs University, Boehnke also teaches at the Center for Socio-Cultural Research at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow, of which he is Deputy Chair. He has received several awards for his work, including the Fukuhara Award of the International Council of Psychologists (ICP). Boehnke was honored by the APA together with Professor Jaan Valsiner, a prominent representative of critical developmental psychology from the University of Aalborg in Denmark.
