Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Trabert verantwortet seit September 2020 in Lehre und Forschung das Fachgebiet „Kommunikationssysteme und Übertragungstechnik“ im Fachbereich Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik der Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena.
Er hat an der Technischen Universität Ilmenau Elektrotechnik mit der Vertiefung Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik studiert und wurde 2010 mit einem Thema zur hochdatenratigen Satellitenkommunikationstechnik promoviert.
Die von ihm in kompakter Mehrlagenkeramiktechnologie entwickelten Mikrowellenschaltungen sind im DLR-Forschungssatellit TET-1 2012 von Baikonur gestartet und mit erfolgreicher „On-Orbit-Verifikation“ in Betrieb gegangen. Parallel zum Grundstudium hat er in Ilmenau die Firma MetraLabs GmbH - Neue Technologien und Systeme mitgegründet.
In seiner PostDoc-Zeit verbrachte Johannes Trabert einen Forschungsaufenthalt zu THz-Radarsensorik am NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena CA USA. Nach der Rückkehr wurde er Geschäftsführer der MetraLabs GmbH und verantworte deren Technologieentwicklung und Forschungsprojekte zu hochmodernen autonomen mobilen Servicerobotern.
Die Begeisterung für Kommunikationstechnik begleitet Johannes Trabert seit Kindheit auch in seiner Freizeit, u.a. als Funkamateur (Calls DK5II, AA3ZE).
