On January 1, 2021, a change will occur on the Supervisory Board of the higher education institution HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. HHL will officially announce the news at today’s Supervisory Board meeting. Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board and Member of the Executive Board, responsible for Finance and IT, at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG as well as Member of the Board of Management, responsible for Investment Management, at Porsche Automobil Holding SE, will be appointed as the new Chairman of HHL’s Supervisory Board. He follows in the footsteps of Dr. Tessen von Heydebreck who has led the school’s Supervisory Board since 2009.
HHL Dean Prof. Dr. Stephan Stubner is looking forward to working with Lutz Meschke and comments,
“With his professional background and conceptual orientation towards the topics of the future, Lutz Meschke will be able to provide new impetus for HHL in his position as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. I have known him to be a discerning conversation partner who has a clear understanding of what direction universities need to go to create value on a long-term basis and remain relevant in research and instruction.”
Lutz Meschke became a Member of the HHL Supervisory Board in 2013. Since then, Porsche AG has sponsored the school’s Chair of Strategic Management and Digital Entrepreneurship. Looking at his future task, he comments,
“HHL trains our future entrepreneurs and executives. The world needs capable and responsible young people to tackle the challenges of the present and future in an effective and sustainable manner. Just like Porsche, HHL stands out through commitment and excellence. When it comes to the topic of digitalization, the school is very much a pioneer as we are. It is therefore a great honor for me to help shape the future of this venerable institution as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.”
Kristian Kirpal, President of the Leipzig Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of HHL’s Shareholder Meeting, says,
“We are thrilled to have Lutz Meschke as a representative of one of the most important companies in the region take on this position of responsibility. Porsche AG has been a sponsor and catalyst in many areas here in Leipzig. At HHL, we are looking forward to the joint commitment in developing HHL as an excellent university and a partner for entrepreneurship and digital transformation here, on location, in Saxony.”
On January 1, 2021, Lutz Meschke will succeed Dr. Tessen von Heydebreck who has served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board with great commitment and success for over a decade.
“When I hand over the chairmanship of HHL’s Supervisory Board after more than eleven years due to my age, I will do so with a tear in one eye and a smile in the other. Who would be happy to leave after contributing to such an amazing success story as HHL has experienced? On the other hand, I can only feel thrilled and thankful to have Lutz Meschke come in as my successor — someone who will be an excellent sparring partner for the school’s Executive Board thanks to his enthusiasm and orientation towards the future.” Dr. Tessen von Heydebreck, Chairman of the HHL Supervisory Board
Says HHL Dean Prof. Dr. Stephan Stubner,
“Under Tessen von Heydebreck’s leadership, HHL evolved into one of the leading business schools in Europe. Dr. von Heydebreck always knew how to maintain the balance between the highest quality standards in research and instruction, a value-oriented educational approach and the necessary path of growth. HHL greatly benefitted from his outstanding personality and experience. On behalf of HHL and speaking personally, I regret Dr. von Heydebreck’s decision to retire from this office and would like to express our most sincere gratitude for his tireless commitment spanning more than a decade.”
Not only did HHL earn the international reputation of being one of the 25 best business schools worldwide with more than 140 partner universities and students from 65 nations. Dr. Tessen von Heydebreck also promoted the school’s strong ties to the region which is reflected by the fact that HHL trains approximately 20 percent of the Masters in Management in Saxony today.
