Dr. habil. Bernd Mulansky vom Institut für Mathematik der TU Clausthal weilt derzeit für vier Monate am Zentrum für Approximationstheorie der Vanderbilt Universität in Nashville. An der Vanderbilt Universität, die zu den 20 besten Universitäten der USA gezählt wird, sind führende Vertreter der Approximationstheorie wie Prof. Larry Schumaker und Prof. Ed Saff tätig.
Der Aufenthalt von Dr. Mulansky beruht auf einer Einladung durch seinen langjährigen Forschungspartner Prof. Marian Neamtu. Dabei werden die gemeinsamen Untersuchungen auf dem Gebiet der multivariaten Splinefunktionen intensiv fortgesetzt. Splinefunktionen besitzen zahlreiche wichtige Anwendungen bei der Interpolation und Approximation von Daten, im Computer Aided Geometric Design und bei der numerischen Lösung von Differential- und Integralgleichungen. Die Ergebnisse fließen auch in ein von Boeing gefördertes Projekt ein. Außerdem führt Dr. Mulansky eine Lehrveranstaltung zur Numerischen Mathematik durch.
