Press invitation: To Discover and Avert the Risks of the Anthropocene

Christoph Herbort-von Loeper M.A. Kommunikation
Leibniz-Gemeinschaft

Leibniz Institutes see urgency of a new kind of Earth system research. Online Media Briefing on 30th June 2021.

Humanity’s impact on the Earth system, which has evolved over millions of years, is increasing rapidly. Global warming, ocean pollution, worldwide biodiversity loss, water stress, and many more developments are visible signs of the Anthropocene. The risks for humans are as yet incalculable and the decisions to be made are of historical importance for civilisation.

Scientists from a wide range of disciplines and institutes represented in the Leibniz Association are therefore pooling their research with immediate effect to investigate a major question together: How can further destabilisation of the Earth system be avoided while at the same time enabling well‐being, prosperity and justice? The new research network is launching an initiative for “Integrated Earth System Research”, involving national and international scientific partners. The findings are to point out both safe and high‐risk development paths and to advise policies, the economy and civil society on decisions.

Interested media representatives will receive detailed information during the following event: Online Media Briefing „To Discover and Avert the Risks of the Anthropocene!“ on
    Wednesday, 30th June 2021, 16:00 to 17:00 (CEST).
The media briefing takes place online via Zoom.

A presentation on the „Integrated Earth System Research“ is provided by: Prof. Jochen Schanze (Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development Dresden) and Prof. Dieter Gerten (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) of the Leibniz Research Network “Integrated Earth System Research“.

We ask for registration until 30th June 2021, 12:00 (CEST) using the following link: https://form.jotform.com/211443736558965
You will receive the access data for the meeting and information on technical details on

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
