THE-Ranking 2022: University of Bayreuth in teaching and research among the top 20 percent worldwide

Christian Wißler Pressestelle
Universität Bayreuth

In the THE World University Ranking 2022 published today, the University of Bayreuth is ranked among the top 20 percent of the world's universities in the areas of teaching, research, and corporate cooperation. Compared to the previous year, the THE ranking has been expanded by more than 100 universities to 1,662 universities, yet the University of Bayreuth has still managed to maintain its position in the top quarter of the overall ranking.

The "THE World University Ranking" is published every year by Times Higher Education (THE), a British academic magazine. Criteria that are included in the overall ranking are, in particular, the supervision ratio of teachers to students, reputation in teaching and research, scientific publications by researchers, and third-party funds raised through cooperation with companies. As in the previous year, in the THE Ranking 2022, the University of Bayreuth is again listed in the ranking group 351-400.

"The fact that the University of Bayreuth ranks among the top 20 per cent in the world in both teaching and research is proof of the strong networking of often interdisciplinary degree programmes and outstanding research on our campus. In this way, the University of Bayreuth succeeds in offering its students and early career scholars very high standards in research and teaching. Research projects on important issues of the future are reflected in lectures, seminars, and practical courses, and students can already work on current projects within the framework of their bachelor's and master's theses, such as energy research, environmental and climate protection, international economic relations, or languages and cultures in Africa," says Prof. Dr. Martin Huber, the University of Bayreuth’s Vice-President for Teaching & Learning.

The enrolment period for the 2021/22 winter semester at the University of Bayreuth runs until 15 October 2021, for example in the bachelor's programmes “Biology”, “Chemistry”, “Physics”, “Engineering Science”, "Environmental & Resource Technology", "Computer Science", “Business Administration”, “History”, "Intercultural German Studies", or "African Verbal & Visual Arts".
