The goal of a zero pollution circular economy drives the experts of the European project PROMISCES who have joined forces to develop innovative solutions for removing pollutants from the environment. The project partners have just signed a 12 million € contract with the European Commission, making PROMISCES a part of the European Green Deal.
PROMISCES aims to understand the origins, routes and fates of pollutants which spread easily in the environment and are very persistent. Starting on 1 November 2021, the Horizon 2020-funded project will develop technologies to remove these pollutants from soils, sediments, surface- and groundwater, since they can be harmful to human health.
„PROMISCES will provide concepts for zero-pollution circularity applied to waters, soils and sediments across the private and public sectors.” says Dr. Philippe Negrel, PROMISCES Coordinator and Deputy Director of the Water, Environment, Process Development and Analysis Division (BRGM, French Geological Survey).
Twenty-seven partners from nine European countries form an interdisciplinary consortium, which includes academic institutions, private companies, research centres and water utilities. Together, they will address the technological challenges as well as to develop recommendations for the implementation of relevant EU policy strategies and guidelines.
To pursue this strategy, PROMISCES is centred around seven representative case studies in different European regions linked with chemical pollution challenges, including locations in Spain, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, and the Danube river basin between Vienna and Budapest.
“PROMISCES will develop, test and demonstrate in the field, under real-life conditions, key technologies and innovations to monitor, prevent and remediate industrial persistent and mobile and potentially toxic pollutants in the soil-sediment-water system,” explains Dr. Julie Lions, PROMISCES Deputy Coordinator and expert in groundwater quality (BRGM, French Geological Survey).
In a nutshell, the innovations developed through PROMISCES are expected to contribute significantly to help meet the European Green Deal goals for a safer and more sustainable environment.

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
