Help for Ukrainian scientists

Dr. Carola Langer Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Leibniz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung Dresden

Russia’s aggression on Ukraine strongly effects science and scientific cooperation. IFW Dresden has taken special measures to provide concrete support in the current emergency.

For years, the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) has maintained successful collaborations in the form of joint graduation programs and research projects as well as a Joint Lab with research institutions in Ukraine. All these programs are questioned and massively affected by the current situation.

More than twenty Ukrainian scientists and students are currently working at IFW Dresden. For these people, the situation is emotionally extremely challenging. Moreover, their professional perspectives as scientists is completely in question. IFW Dresden now took measures to decisively address the second point. This includes the extension of the employment contracts of Ukrainian employees with IFW. This measure is supported by the institute's own funds as well as by promised support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the assistance of the Leibniz Association.

In addition, special programs are being prepared to finance guest stays for researchers or professors from Ukraine whose scientific work has been made impossible in their own country. In this way, IFW Dresden would like to contribute to ensuring that science remains conceivable despite extreme political crisis situations.

At IFW Dresden, people from more than forty nations work together in scientific excellence and in a peaceful atmosphere. The recent developments deeply shock the staff, which is reflected not least in many personal offers of help on a collegial level.

    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
