Benefit concert for Ukraine

Melisa Berktas Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Hochschule für Künste Bremen

The Hochschule für Künste (HfK), the parish of Our Lady and the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe invite to a joint solidarity concert for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Admission to the evening is on a donation basis. Proceeds will be used to assist with emergency aid for refugees from Ukraine. The concert will take place on April 24, 2022, starting at 6:00 pm at the Church of Our Lady in Bremen.

The audience can look forward to works by Richard Strauss, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert, among others. Student singers of the Hochschule für Künste Bremen will perform. They will be accompanied on the piano by Ulrich Sprenger, a lecturer for special tasks in the field of accompaniment at the HfK, who will also lead through the evening.

"We can all expose the much-cited phrase of the 'right of the strongest' for what it is: a contradiction in terms. Because the stronger doesn't need a right, he just takes what he wants," Sprenger explained. For him, the students of the HfK, the congregation of Our Lady and the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, it was therefore important to stand up for peace – through music. "Our unconditional solidarity is with the victims of inhumanity," said Sprenger. "We hope that we can set an example with our benefit concert."

About the Bremen University of the Arts / Hochschule für Künste Bremen (HfK)

The Hochschule für Künste Bremen is the leading art academy in Northwest Germany. With more than 1,000 students, 88 professors and 162 lecturers, the HfK Bremen offers a unique portfolio of courses and guarantees individual support for students in workshops, laboratories and studios as well as practice rooms and concert halls. The central quality of the HfK Bremen is the interdisciplinary connection of the different disciplines between art, design and music, which is developed in joint projects. The HfK Bremen has two locations, one in a historic warehouse building in the Überseestadt, the former docklands of Bremen, the other in a classicist building in the historic center of the city.
The university and its activities, ranging from exhibitions and interventions in public spaces to concerts and festivals, is a pillar of Bremen's cultural offerings (about 400 events at the HfK Bremen) and offers students many opportunities to test their skills in front of an audience.
As a historic Hanseatic city, Bremen has developed civic engagement, democratic traditions, idiosyncrasies and independence over centuries and is regarded in Germany as a pioneering and experimental city that is open to the new. Bremen is very popular among students as a place to live.
