HBG has a new managing director

Stefan Zorn Stabsstelle Kommunikation
Medizinische Hochschule Hannover

Sascha Zenker will take up his post on May 1, 2022

Hannover University Medical School "Bau- und Gebäudemanagement Hannover GmbH" (HBG) has a new managing director. Sascha Zenker will take office on May 1, 2022. HBG is responsible for the preparation, planning and construction of the new MHH clinic building on Stadtfelddamm. The civil engineer was previously an authorised signatory in the umbrella company "Bauvorhaben Hochschulmedizin Niedersachsen mbH" (DBHN) and in this capacity already had intensive contact with the new MHH building project. DBHN looks after the interests of the state as the controlling company for the new construction measures of the Hannover Medical School (MHH) and the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG).

Following the departure of the former HBG management, MHH Vice President Martina Saurin had taken on the additional tasks on a transitional basis in February 2022 and continued to plan the constructional development at Stadtfelddamm. MHH President Professor Dr. Michael Manns is pleased that with Sascha Zenker, an accomplished expert and developer of Lower Saxony's path in university medical hospital construction will lead HBG. "We are gaining a committed and hands-on manager who can get to grips with the matter immediately." Professor Manns thanks Vice President Saurin for the additional work she has done. Martina Saurin will continue to take on the duties of the Presidium Member for Infrastructure on an interim basis.

Sascha Zenker is looking forward to his new job together with a highly motivated team at the HBG. "I am aware of the challenging task in my new role," he says. "In addition to completing the existing team with further know-how carriers from the industry, it requires reliable communication with the diverse interfaces and timely project progress as a result of joint work based on the agreed processes." The civil engineer from Berlin is married and father of two children. As a project manager, he has experience in the planning and implementation of various special buildings, including hospital buildings at various university clinics.

Burkhard Landré, Managing Director of the umbrella company "Bauvorhaben Hochschulmedizin Niedersachsen mbH" (DBHN), regrets the change of his authorised signatory. But "at the same time, I am pleased with the MHH that the management of HBG could be quickly reappointed. Mr. Zenker, with his expertise and experience in major construction projects, as well as his in-depth knowledge of the processes at HBG, is in a position to work on optimising them immediately," he adds.

Lower Saxony's path in university medical hospital construction

In 2017, the state of Lower Saxony had formed a special fund to redevelop its two university medical sites in Hanover and Göttingen. For the organisation, planning and realisation of what are currently the state's largest construction measures, the Lower Saxony approach to hospital construction in higher education medicine is being followed: To this end, the state founded the umbrella company "Bauvorhaben Hochschulmedizin Niedersachsen mbH" (DBHN) in mid-2019. Economic-strategic know-how is thus combined with precise knowledge of the special processes involved in complex and innovative public-sector construction projects and is intended to create an efficient project structure so that the new buildings of the MHH and the UMG can be implemented quickly and economically.

Separate construction companies in the legal form of a GmbH (limited liability company) were founded at both hospital sites for the purpose of operational implementation of the measures to be carried out. The joint shareholders of HBG are MHH and DBHN.
