Maintaining Top Scores in Psychology for the IPU Berlin

Daniel Jakubowski Team Kommunikation
International Psychoanalytic University Berlin

After its third time participating in the CHE Ranking, the International Psychoanalytic University Berlin (IPU) has once again been placed in the top-ranked groups of ten categories. As such, it remains one of the best universities for studying psychology throughout Germany. The current numbers are the result of polling students from bachelor’s programs in psychology.

IPU students especially value the general studying situation, support from teaching staff, the curriculum, and examination conditions. Further top scores were given to the categories professional orientation, IT infrastructure, and room layout. The assessment also reflects that new students have access to comprehensive services upon beginning their studies.

Excellent Teaching Situation and Growing Research Opportunities

The IPU found itself with mid-level scores in several research-related categories. These numbers are by all means good results for a small private university. Through psychoanalysis, the IPU also represents a humanities approach, and publishes considerable textbooks or collected works more frequently than individual articles in scientific journals. In comparison to the 2019 CHE Ranking, IPU researchers were able to increase the amount of research funding by a third, which, among others, have been granted by independent foundations or the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The next survey will begin soon with the master’s students in psychology and will be concluded by the end of July 2022.
