G7 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting: University of Hohenheim Media Service

Florian Klebs Hochschulkommunikation
Universität Hohenheim

13+14 May 2022: Scientists from the University of Hohenheim will be available to give statements on the topics of the meeting, which will be held by the BMEL on the University's premises

On Friday and Saturday, 13 and 14 May 2022, the G7 agriculture ministers will meet in Stuttgart. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is carrying out the event at the University of Hohenheim. Journalists looking for an independent voice from the world of science for their reporting can contact the experts at the University of Hohenheim directly on site at the University of Hohenheim or by telephone. Their expertise largely covers the topics of the meeting.

According to the announcement of the BMEL, one of the most important topics of the meeting will be the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences. After all, this crisis is also shaking up the world food system: Agriculture in Ukraine, one of the world’s largest “breadbaskets,” has to cut back production. The country's infrastructure continues to be destroyed and the ports are blocked. As a result, food prices are rising worldwide. Global logistical problems are making it difficult to provide agricultural products, and the priority needs to be on averting the threat of famine.

    To the BMEL’s press invitation:

Experts from the University of Hohenheim will explain the background to this and other topics of the G7 meeting of agriculture ministers and provide statements from a scientific perspective. Media are asked to directly approach the contacts with whom they would like to speak. The Press Office of the University of Hohenheim will also be happy to arrange interview partners.
